Internet service providers, browsers, home filtering software, and even computer operating systems offer parental control options. But to make sure those systems work, websites that are intended for “adults only” need to be clearly labeled as such. By labeling their sites webmasters demonstrate the online adult industry’s commitment to helping parents prevent children from viewing age-inappropriate content.
Site labels are designed to help webmasters to prevent children from being exposed to age inappropriate content online. Labeled sites can be recognized by internet browsers, filtering software, Internet Service Providers, search engines and even computer operating systems as being off-limits to kids. Labeling is generally voluntary, and universally available to any website that wishes to clearly and effectively label itself as being inappropriate for viewing by minors.
